Appearing to harden its stand over Law Minister Somnath Bharti, against whom there is mounting pressure on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to take action, the Congress has said it will be meeting Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to discuss the issue.
"We are meeting the LG to tell him that police should act as per the law. If the judicial inquiry should find that the police are guilty than action should be taken against them. If an aam admi was involved in this situation, he would have been arrested by now," Lovely said, when asked the agenda for the meeting.
"But because he (Somnath Bharti) is a minister, no action has been taken. We want action to be taken as per law. Nobody is above law," the Congress MLA said.
The Congress, however, is still not demanding Bharti's resignation.
"No, we are not asking for resignation. We are asking for legal action to be taken. If police has to arrest him as per law, he should be arrested," Lovely said.
On Wednesday Lovely had said it was for "AAP to look into its inner soul" on a decision on Bharti. (Read full report here)
Bharti has come under intense criticism over his 'racist' remarks about Ugandan nationals during a controversial raid to bust an alleged drug and sex racket earlier this month. Women activists and political parties have demanded that he be sacked.
Kejriwal, who met the LG this morning, has so far backed his law minister insisting that a decision against him will be taken only after judicial inquiry was completed.
