Ahmedabad: A PIL filed in the Gujarat High Court has sought details of expenditure incurred by the state government on Chief Minister Narendra Modi's 'Sadbhavna' fasts in 2011, claiming the state machinery was misused.
Petitioner K M Paul argued before the division bench of Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala that the fasts were politically motivated.
However, the bench said that "on the face of it we can say the petition is not maintainable". "Same issue had earlier appeared, again to bring the same issue is a waste of time," Justice Pardiwala said.
Government pleader P K Jani said a PIL on this issue had been dismissed by the high court in September 2011.
The high court asked the petitioner to provide details of the earlier petition and scheduled the next hearing for Friday.
The petition alleges that crores of rupees were spent by the government and the state machinery was misused for the fasts.
