Biennial election for 55 Rajya Sabha seats to be held on 7 Feb

New Delhi: 55 Rajya Sabha seats in 16 states are set to fall vacant in April for which biennial election will take place on 7 February.

According to the Election Commission, the term of 55 Rajya Sabha members is coming to an end between 2 and 12 April. While 7 seats are falling vacant in Maharashtra, six seats each are falling vacant in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Five seats each are falling vacant in West Bengal and Bihar, four each in Odisha and Gujarat, three each in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Assam, two each in Haryana,
Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand and one each in Manipur, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh.

Notification for the biennial polls will be issued on January 21 and nominations can be filed till 28 January. Nomination papers will be scrutinised on January 29 and the
last date of withdrawal is 31 January.

Polling and counting of votes will take place on 7 February, the EC said, adding that the election process would be concluded by 10 February 10.
