New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party Government will introduce Jan Lokapal Bill in the next session of Delhi Assembly, tentatively scheduled to be held in the first week of February.
"The draft of Jan Lokpal Bill is almost ready. We are trying to call the next session of Delhi Assembly in the first week of February. The agenda will be Jan Lokpal Bill," Education and Urban Development Minister Manish Sisodia said here today.
He said the bill has been prepared on lines of Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill, but keeping in mind the system of governance in Delhi.
To a query whether Discoms and NGOs would come under the purview of the bill, Sisodia said all those agencies getting government funding would be made accountable.
Sisodia said another important bill, Swaraj Bill, will also be introduced provided it is ready by that time.
"I received a draft of Swaraj Bill today itself. I will vet it first," he said.
Soon after assuming office on December 28 last year, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said his government would bring the promised Jan Lokpal Bill by the first week of February.
"A committee headed by the Chief Secretary and secretaries of Urban Development, Law and Finance departments, besides eminent advocate Rahul Mehra has been given the responsibility of drafting the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary SC Behar has been entrusted with the responsibility of drafting Swaraj Bill. A team of five experts is working on it.
