Modi only abusing Congress, spinning yarn on development: Digvijaya

Whether it was marketing the achievements of the UPA-II or defending the government in the face of allegations of corruption in the 2G and coal block allocation scams, the Congress party and the government at the Centre both failed "miserably", according to Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh,

In an interview to the Economic Times, Singh has said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had highly exaggerated the figures involved in the 2G and coal block cases.

These failures of the Congress and the UPA have been exploited by the Opposition, he said. Party cadres at every level should aggressively carry the "message of development", he said.

On Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh said the BJP remains weak on ideology and has therefore "spun a yarn around the so-called model of development".

"Modi in all his speeches is doing nothing but abusing Congress and its leadership. Even when he talks of the UPA government, he conveniently forgets that under the devolution of central taxes, Gujarat is getting five times more money than it did during the NDA regime. The unfortunate part is, as Rahul Gandhi and Manmohan Singh both have said, Congress has failed to market its achievements during the last few years, starting from 2009," he said.
