Congress MPs from Seemandhra, along with TDP MPs who have been protesting against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in the first half of the Winter session, are likely to continue their opposition in Parliament as the government is keen on passing the Telangana bill this session.

"Our agitation has led to a realisation that the Centre is mishandling the issue. We are appealing, begging to the President and to all parties not to pass this Bill," TDP MLA Payyavula Keshav had said.

The opposition BJP is also likely to target the Congress-led UPA government over sharp divisions within the party on the Bill.

"It's the government's own Chief Minister who has rejected the Bill," Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj said referring to Andhra Pradesh CM Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is in Delhi and expected to hold protests at Jantar Mantar.

The UPA government, however, is hopeful of passing key legislation with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh early this morning appealing to MPs to respect Parliament and engage in fruitful debate.

In a statement released by his office, the prime minister said: "I sincerely hope that Parliament, in its wisdom, will transact essential business which is the primary concern of any legislature in a democracy."

He further added that the government is committed to the passage of the six pending anti-corruption bills as well as the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation bill.

Besides the Telangana issue, the government is also likely to face tough questions on the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal, where Congress President Sonia Gandhi's name has featured in a leaked letter.

The death of 19-year-old Nido Tania from Arunachal Pradesh, who was allegedly beaten up in Lajpat Nagar, is also likely to be brought up in Parliament with Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering having issued notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar asking for suspension of Question Hour to discuss the issue.

Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament Finance Minister P Chidambaram voiced his apprehensions about the session. "I doubt if any Bill will be allowed to pass in this session," he said.
