BJP shows Pramod Muthalik the door within few hours of entry

Resorting to face-saving measures over the induction of the controversial Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik into the BJP today, the party top brass intervened to cancel his entry.

Muthalik had hit national headlines in early 2009 after he along with his party activists attacked young women at a Mangalore pub. According to CNN-IBN, Muthalik is a Narendra Modi fan and had sought a BJP ticket from Belgaum North in the Assembly election held in May 2013. At present, he is is facing over 50 cases ranging from violation of Section 144 to communal violence.

Senior BJP leader and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had earlier told CNN-IBN, "His membership should be cancelled, I have told central leadership that he should not be in the party."

Owning to the bad response, the BJP's central leadership had also asked its Karnataka unit to reconsider Muthalik's membership. The decision to induct Muthalik was taken by the Karnataka unit of the BJP, without informing the central leadership, sources had said.
