Jaitley blogs his advice to Jaswant: Must take ‘no’ as an answer

Retorting to former foreign affairs, finance and defence minister Jaswant Singh's decision to contest as an independent from Barmer in Rajasthan after being refused a ticket by the party, senior party strategist Arun Jaitley wrote on his blog on Sunday that now is the time for senior party leaders to prove their discipline and political lotyalty.

Writing that in election season, many political persons desirous of being candidates get left out and that political parties are built with the support of "millions of political workers who have sacrificed their time and energy without ever aspiring to hold elected office", Jaitley contended that personal views are to be subjected to the party's collective wisdom.

"What does a politician do when after a successful political career the party is unable to accommodate him once? That is when his discipline and political loyalty are to be tested," he said on his blog.

He continued, "At times, the party may flood leaders with privileges and positions. On other occasions, the leader may have to take "no" as an answer to his desires. How does a politician or a leader react to such "no"? He must accept the decision with a smile. This becomes a test of his loyalty and discipline."
