Alagiri expelled from DMK for ‘criticising party despite suspension’

The DMK today expelled former minister and M Karunanidhi's son MK Alagiri for criticising the party despite being suspended.

Party chief Karunanidhi said that he along with General Secretary K Anbazhagan decided to expel Alagiri because he had criticised of the DMK despite his suspension.

Alagiri's suspension comes amid speculation about him campaigning in favour of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and also planning to launch a statewide tour to hold consultations with loyalists, reports The Hindustan Times.

Even after his suspension Alagiri continued to make many remarks against his party in the last few months.

Right after his expulsion from the DMK he had hit out at the party for seeking additional security for his younger brother MK Stalin, saying only those who have done something wrong would need more security.

Alagiri had said last week that he had been "unfairly vilified" and suspended and had said, "Some forces in the party are not allowing Kalaingar (Karunanidhi) to function as party president. They are harassing the president of the party." These remarks were reportedly aimed against Stalin.

Alagiri was suspended in January this year for reportedly indulging in anti-party activities. Karunanidhi had earlier revealed that the MP had threatened his younger brother with death.

"Alagiri came to my house on 24 January and complained regarding Stalin and troubled me and used harsh words. Alagiri told me Stalin will die in three months. No father can tolerate such words against his son," Karunanidhi was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN.
