Finally acknowledged by ND Tiwari, son now campaigns alongside him

Veteran Congressman ND Tiwari may have acknowledged him as his son as recently as the beginning of this month, but Rohit Shekhar may be on his way to stepping into his father's shoes in Nainital.

Speaking to Firstpost soon after Tiwari finally acknowledged him as his son, Shekhar had said, "The wounds will take time. I don't trust him. Nothing is absolute. Don't take the charm away from ambiguity. I am ambiguous about the future."

However, the mistrust seems to have evaporated even as Shekhar campaigns in Nainital with his father where he seeks blessings and his 89-year-old father keeps it uncertain whether he will contest again.

"It is the people of the area who will decide whether me or my son should contest the parliamentary election from the seat, I will be able to say anything only after knowing the public view," Tiwari, who is on a ten-day-long tour of Nainital told PTI.

While he says it doesn't matter if he or his son gets a ticket to contest the poll, Tiwari said,"I want to promote Rohit Shekhar from the seat as he is a well qualified youth who is a graduate and also holds a degree in law from the Delhi University."

An Indian Express report describes how the aged Tiwari is still travelling the streets of Nainita, meeting people, despite needing physiotherapy every morning, needing to be fed and being unable to get out of his vehicle.

Praying for his son's future and addressing people at rallies, Tiwari is travelling with Shekhar and his mother through the region and at times even gets his son to address rallies.

Whether it will mean a revival in the 89-year-old's political career is uncertain, but Shekhar will be hoping that the new campaign gives him the political spoils of a long legal battle that he has fought to be acknowledged as the veteran Congressman's son.
